The Good
When I first picked up Flotilla I was very surprised this book made my top 5 best reads! It was easy to tell that this book had a lot of thought put into it and I very much enjoyed it! There was a equal balance of dialogue and story all in a novel begging for a sequel. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves action and adventure.
The Bad
I will say there is no bad except that it really left me on a ledge at the end since I feel like I need t know what happened in the end since it really does not end but is just the beginning.
The Story
The story starts out that Jim the main character is a drug taking drinking rebel teenager is shipped off to his dad's place out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on a government project called Colony D. At first he hates his job at the Flotilla then makes some friends including finding a girlfriend and gets a job as a cashier for a gun range. Soon later pirates attack the colony and were warded off by the colony patrol. He returns to the mainland and one day when his mom and step dad are out he drank some tequila and is forced to go to AA every day until he returns to the colony with his little sister. Then disaster strikes on the mainland and of the able bodied men chosen to help Jim's dad is chosen to help. When Jim was on the main land his dad had done some shady stuff and had people trailing him looking for blood. When he left his gift to his son was a very old shotgun and told him to get off the colony since the entire place was made of boats. The perfect time struck when a massive pirate attack happened and he cut the ropes to the colony and made for the coastline. The rest of the colony except for the anchor ship a retired Navy destroyer made it and that is where the story stops and I look for a sequel. I highly recommend this book to teenagers and adults alike.
